Moderate to High risk of Tornadoes Across Chicago Area

 

The National Storm Prediction Center has issued a highly unusual high to moderate risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that includes the Chicago area today (see map below – orange-shaded areas depict a 15 percent chance of tornadoes within 25 miles of a given location and pink-shaded areas depict a 30 percent chance of tornadoes within 25 miles of a given location). Damaging winds, tornadoes and large hail can be expected in our area later this morning into this afternoon...

Gay Marriage Approved in Illinois

 The General Assembly today narrowly approved a gay marriage bill, clearing the way for Illinois to become the 15th state to legalize same-sex unions.

The bill got 61 votes in the House, one more than the bare minimum needed to send the measure back to the Senate, which quickly signed off. Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn has said he would sign the bill into law should it reach his desk...

Audit Of Illinois Medicaid Program Reveals Massive Fraud

A review was ordered more than a year ago-- because of concerns about waste and abuse. So far, the state says reviewers have examined roughly 712-thousand people enrolled in Medicaid, and found that 357-thousand, or about half of them shouldn't have received benefits. After further review, the state decided that the percentage of people who didn't qualify was actually about one out of four.
