The Legislature’s First Job Is Not to Legislate

Defenders of Sen. Harry Reid’s triggering of the “nuclear option,” ending the filibuster for all Executive Branch nominees save those to the Supreme Court, call it a triumph for democracy. Hogwash.

Democratic governance isn’t about a majority doing whatever it wants, much less when that involves advancing a president’s agenda. Congress, in effect, has abandoned its purpose within our system of separation of powers, and needs to turn back...

Dodd-Frank: Obama’s other big bad law

In July 2010, four months after President Obama signed his universal health-care act into law, he enacted his other signature achievement, the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. Reid boasts, ‘I can out-legislate Cruz’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he might not be good at calculus, but he knows how to legislate.

Reid told The Huffington Post that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is smart, but he can’t outmaneuver the 26-year veteran in the halls of Congress.

“He might be able to work a calculus problem better than I can,” Reid said Thursday. “But he can't legislate better than I can."...
