Wasserman Schultz: How Dare ‘Nitpicking’ GOP Question the Administration

The chairman of the Democratic National Committee accused Republicans of  “grasping at straws” in their criticism of the Bowe Bergdahl case and “nitpicking” over the number of Taliban exchanged for his release. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) accused GOP senators, specifically Susan Collins (R-Maine), of saying “we should leave a member of our armed forces who was in the midst ... Read More »

Sharyl Attkisson Describes Some CBS Bosses as ‘Personally Defensive’ of the Obama Administration

Former CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has been making the media rounds, discussing her departure from the network she called home for more than two decades. She appeared on CNN's Reliable Sources over the weekend and shed additional light on a developing culture inside CBS News that she said she could no longer abide. Attkisson cited the network's "declining appetite" for original investigative reporting, prompting host Brian Stelter to note the irony that CBS News' slogan is "original reporting." But her concerns extended far beyond some producers' and executives' apparent disinterest in her brand of journalism. She said CBS' internal editorial inertia resists stories that could reflect poorly on the Obama administration, or the federal government in general. This full exchange is worth your time...

Which Network Will Win the Battle for Sharyl Attkisson?

Media and particularly cable news has never been as polarized as it is today. It’s also never been tilted more towards opinion and less toward objective reporting of hard news.

As a result, trust in media has fallen to an all-time low. Reporters in particular are looked upon as dishonest brokers in the business, with Gallup showing only 20 percent of those polled finding journalists honest and ethical (that’s 65 percent lower than nurses, 50 percent lower than doctors and engineers). Solid investigative reporters are simply in short supply and demand. Why? Because with opinion programming so much cheaper to produce and given the huge ratings that oftentimes go along with it (Fox’s The Five is a Top-3 program in the 25-54 demo, for example), why even bother too much with the more expensive, resource-draining hard stuff?

Which brings us to the prospects of Sharyl Attkissonformerly of CBS News as of last month. As you’ve likely heard by now, she recently quit the network due to a significant drop in air time, which she says was because the network was being submissive to the Obama Administration.

Sharyl Attkisson: CBS Would Pull Me Off Of Obama Scandals

One month ago. long-time investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson left CBS amid rumors that she had grown frustrated with the network stifling her investigations. Thursday night on Bill O' Reilly's Fox News program she confirmed those rumors."There is unprecedented, I believe, influence on the media, not just the news, but the images you see everywhere. By well-orchestrated and financed campaign of special interests, political interests and corporations. I think all of that comes into play."

After introducing his guest, O'Reilly asked Attkisson about her investigation into the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal.

The former CBS reporter asserted that she began to make inroads into the story but had to drop it:

Obama’s politicized, lawless executive branch

Under the administration of President Obama, as never before in my lifetime, there is reason to be a bit afraid of the federal government. I have written two books documenting Obama's abuses of power, his assaults on the Constitution, his wars against business and energy, his abominably reckless spending, his divisiveness, his renegade Justice Department, his regulatory expansion, his executive orders, his overall lawlessness, and more. Obama's conduct concerning Obamacare alone would be enough...

House Approves Law Retaliating Against Obama’s Use of Executive Actions

The House approved legislation Wednesday that would let Congress file civil lawsuits against the executive branch for failing to enforce the laws, a response to what Republicans say is an Obama administration that routinely ignores the will of Congress.

Members approved the bill in a 233-181 vote. Every Republican voted for it, along with five Democrats: Reps. John Barrow (Ga.), Henry Cuellar (Texas), Pete Gallego (Texas), Collin Peterson (Minn.), and Nick Rahall (W.Va.)...
