Pope Poses for ‘Selfies’

Pope Francis, marking Palm Sunday in a packed St. Peter's Square, ignored his prepared homily and spoke entirely off-the-cuff in a remarkable departure from practice. Later, he continued to stray from the script by hopping off his popemobile to pose for "selfies" with young people and also sipping tea passed to him from the crowd.

In his homily, Francis called on people, himself included, to look into their own hearts to see how they are living their lives.

"Has my life fallen asleep?" Francis asked after listening to a Gospel account of how Jesus' disciples fell asleep shortly before he was betrayed by Judas before his crucifixion...

Pope Francis, Thomas Jefferson, and Capitalism

The Pope is singling out a behavior that values anything beyond the spiritual love that we are all to have for one another. He is addressing the concern about poverty, the concern about wealth, the concern about selfishness and greed.

He is not saying that one form of government is better than another. He is not talking about any form of economic structure at all. He is merely singling out how you use the gifts Christ has given you, regardless of the system. For Catholics, putting anything ahead of our spiritual faith is the concern to the Pope. The Pope's entire focus relates to our spiritual journey to eternal salvation and that the things of this world matter not.

The Pope is not running for president. He is the leader of the Catholic Church and is doing precisely for his followers what he should be commanding us to do...

Pope ‘Condemns’ Abortion, But Mainstream Media Spins Story

However, that wasn’t what the Pope said, let alone meant.  The pontiff was warning about a divisive approach to everyone, and a lack of focus on the core message of God’s love and salvation through Jesus Christ. Francis gave an analogy of the Church as a “field hospital,” which needs to triage the wounds before true healing can take place.  That means first proclaiming Jesus Christ as God’s salvation and victory over all sin based on sheer love the Creator has for His creation.
