Disgraceful! CA Schools Have Students Comparing Civil Rights Hero MLK Jr. to Cop-Killer Mumia Abu-Jamal

A school which asked students to compare Martin Luther King to convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal in a lesson plan has been branded an 'absolute disgrace'.

Maureen Faulkner, whose husband Daniel was shot by Abu-Jamal in 1981, blasted the taxpayer-funded plan, saying it advocated violence.

The lesson, given to students in Oakland, California, asked them to draw a 'possible parallel' between civil rights activist King, and 'someone else many believe is currently targeted by the U.S. government, Mumia Abu-Jamal.'...

De Blasio’s War On Education & Children: Kicks 700 Kids Out Of High Performing Charter Schools

Mayor de Blasio brought down the hammer Thursday on three charter schools operated by his nemesis Eva Moskowitz, leaving hundreds of kids without classrooms this fall.

“This has to be the saddest day for the Success Academy’s children, family, teachers, school leaders,” Moskowitz said after meeting with stunned charter parents in Harlem.

“Right now, our kids are being evicted. Evicted out of their school. It’s wrong and we need an explanation. You’re going to have to ask Mayor de Blasio what the motivations are for a decision that will hurt so many children now and, frankly, forever.”...

Left-Leaning New York Joins Common Core Critics

The Common Core has been applauded by education leaders and promoted by the Obama administration as a way to replace a hodgepodge of state standards with one set of rigorous learning goals.

Though 45 states and the District of Columbia have signed on to them since 2010, resistance came quickly, mostly from right-leaning states, where some leaders and political action groups have protested what they see as a federal takeover of local classrooms.

But the newest chorus of complaints is coming from one of the most liberal states, and one of the earliest champions of the standards: New York. And that is causing supporters of the Common Core to shudder...
